History

BMW was officially founded as a public company in 1922, but traces it's origins to the pioneering days of German aviation all the way back to 1913. Beginning with aircraft engines, BMW produced a variety of products in its early years, eventually moving to motorcycle production in 1923 and automobiles in 1929.

3 Series

The 3 series is not only one of BMW's most important models, it also accounts for a majority of BMW's worldwide sales. The heritage of the 3-Series goes back to the small, sporty 1600 and 2002 four-seaters that arrived in the United States in the late 1960s. For 30 plus years the 3 Series has delivered a special mix of performance, practicality and European luxury. It's the car that defines "sport sedan" and the benchmark every luxury car maker from Acura to Volvo aims at when it develops a luxury sport sedan, but above all, the 3 Series is a driver's car: accelerating, turning and stopping with remarkable agility and balance, without compromising comfort. It's as close as it gets to the perfect sports sedan!

The 3 Series has been on Car and Driver magazine's annual Ten Best list 20 times, from 1992 through 2011, making it the longest running entry in the list, a feat unmatched by any other vehicle.
